Binoculars: Which Should I Get For Hunting?
I am a hunter and I need some nice binoculars. I don;t know a whole bunch about them though. My primary objective is to scan an area for activity. I would also like to be able to find range within a certain degree. Lets assume cost is not a issue (up to a grand) I also do not overly like relying on batteries (rangefinder). How do you feel about mil-dot recitles in binos?
Do they work? Another consideration is the size and durability? I pack a lot of stuff when I trek /hunt /camp so smaller is better to a degree, but I like quality.
Any ideas for brand, specs, etc…
Do you like range finders for binos???

As the old saying goes you get what you pay for.
I love Zeiss Conquest ABK Binoculars. Cabelas has them on sale now. I have tried many types but LOVE these! Just read the reviews at Cabela’s about them, people know a good product when they use one. Steiner, Meopta are fine binoculars, the cheaper Leupold and Pentax are acceptable and dependable.
The higher end binoculars are the way to go in my book. I hate things being undependable in the middle of no where. Also I do not like the “extras” they have now, what I mean is a range finder is ok but nothing else. I want clear optics with a wide field of view, good in low light, rugged, water proof, shock proof and light weight.
As far as magnification goes I like about x9 or x10 for general hunting and x20 for mountain or prairie hunting. So my fav is a 10×40.
Concerning range finders; I don’t want that on my binoculars. If it’s so far away that I have to check the distance I just pull out my range finder. If my rangefinder is part of my bino’s and it gets destroyed in a fall I just lost 2 pieces of equipment instead of one.
Some go with the cheap ones, I have too and some have ticked me off to the point that I had to throw them away.
Hope this helps you some.
well i would have to say that you should get a pair of infrared binoculars that way you can hunt during the day and during the night but mostly during the night and hunting during the night is way better than hunting during the day because during the day the animals are alert and during the night the animals let down thier gaurd i should no i used to hunt all the time at night with my dad plus thier are rarely any other hunters out at night so you have the pick of the bunch
i choose Pentax 12×42 12 years ago , they have served me well, i paid $360 for them at that time
The 37″ tube was 250 lbs. Too heavy by far.
let the professional fix it for you

I know that in field trial nothing is camo and it's just used to show how much your dog knows. In a hunting test it's supposed to feel like the real thing to the dog everythings camo.
