Absolutely. All of my amateur astronomy friends have binoculars, but none of them have $50 scopes. I used binoculars for years prior to investing in a good scope. The best binoculars for astronomy are usually 7 x 50 or 10 x 50. You don't want them to get heavy. They will not provide very good detail on deep sky objects, regardless of what binoculars you buy, but you will be able to at least see several clusters, nebulae, and even a couple of galaxies. If you do buy a larger binocular, you might want a tripod to go with it. By the time you do that, you are probably just as well off going for an 8 inch Dob.
Your current scope would make a decorative plant stand.
ADDED: If you want detailed planetary views, you will need to buy a scope (one that costs at least $200). But there's a huge variety of deep sky objects that can be seen with decent binoculars. They will also really help you to learn the night sky – which is half the fun.

Do-it-yourselfer Chris Knight explains that the innards of cheap binoculars can double as a macro lens for digital SLR cameras and camcorders and can prove especially useful in situations when a macro lens is unavailable. Unscrew the binoculars and remove the front lenses. Tape the lenses securely to the front of your camera. When you first start the camera up, it will take some time to acquire the best focus, but with practice, you’ll be able to capture objects at extreme close-up detail.

Nice review! Well done! Any idea how close a focus this has? Am looking for one that can be used feet away. Have you ever tried the Vikula 7-21×25?
