Good information. My only disagreement is with the image stabilization. I have a familial hand tremor (family trait) and the image stabilization is the only way I can use any binoculars! There are many people with a hand tremor who would benefit from the image stabilization and I would recommend them for those people.
Nitrate dope fumes are harmful. If you are using it for model aircraft, I suggest Krylon Satin clear finish as a substitute. It comes in a spray can at all major stores like Walmart. Lightly spray on a coat. The stuff will tend to stay on the surface and not soak through the tissue. It works great, is convenient, and causes absolutely no shrinkage. Some other dope substitutes are future floor polish (actually a clear acrylic finish) and watered down white glue.
