Hey all! I want to get my husband some binoculars for Christmas. I want some good ones, not ones that are going to break after using them once or twice. Any help on which brand is good/better/best would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Posted in General section, but trying hunting section as well.

Depends on what you want to use it for.
If you want to watch theatre or sporting events, that’s also easy to take with you, you might want to opt for a lower power binocular.
they will have numbers like 7×35. Nikon as mentioned make nice binoculars in this class.
If you want to use it for bird watching or star watching, you would want higher power ones with numbers like 10×50. These tend to be bulkier, but you’re not exactly doing activities where you’re jumping around either. most of these type of binoculars can be adapted to attached to a tripod.
There are many in this class, but the quality range is also widely varying. Bushnell is an interesting example because they make differing quality products at each price point.
Good/better/best can be seen in the binocular optic coatings.
Fully Coated/ MultiCoated /Fully MulitCoated.
and I’d guess the price points for those to be about 40/80/120 dollars.
Things that say Ruby coated are generally cheaper, are less than 40 dollars, and dont make up for the “good” quality par you asked for.
Since this is in the hunting forum, hunters seem to like weather sealed rubber armor 10×42 porro prism camo-colored things. And I confess I’m not sure why, as they seem to be priced 2-3x more expensive then they should be.
I find Bushnell is darn good stuff for affordable money.
The 10X power binox almost require a tripod for keeping the images from dancing right off the field of view with every heartbeat, if I just climbed a hill, and severe image-jittering like crazy if I am rested. The 7X power leave me thinking I need a bit more power, but are fast on target, and no jittery imaging. The 8X suffer from a bit of all complaints, but not so bad, like any middle of the cowpath compromise.
Personally, I wound up with combo camera-binox (7X), and am tickled to be taking home stuff I never got a decent opportunity to make a gunshot at. This works out great on my laptop computer, taken along and operated on an inverter off the truck’s battery. The 7X’s larger field of view covers for hasty shot composition, with extra space on all sides of the target which can be cropped off at leisure. The big-pixel sensor allows for digital enlargement of the “good” parts of the frame, several times bigger before things get grainy. And CD or DVD or flash drives can record it all. Or Gmail can handle 20M worth of pictures sent at the same time, to an alternate email addr of mine for later retrieval, using the Sprint Mobile Broadband hooked to the laptop from the truck on a hilltop line-of-sight to any civilized area many miles away. Lotsa fun!
Get him some polypropylene long johns to prevent shivering, or no binox will work for him.
My fav is the “Zeiss 10×25 Compact” – I have had a pair for over 30 years.
I take them everywhere with me, hunting, hiking/backpacking, canoe/kayak, sporting events, etc. The optics are incredible and they fold up to fit in my jacket pocket..
Yes, I have several full size binoculars, it’s just that 99% of the time I end up taking the Zeiss.
Nikon is always a great choice for anything optical.
Bushnell is the **** for sure. That’s the way to go
